Flanders is a region with many Small & Medium seized business (SMB). Until early 2010 there was no map available with the exact location of all these companies. Especially (local) governments had no precise idea about the number of companies and their exact location.

Every year, the Agriculture and Fisheries agency of the Flemish Government receives reports from all 32.000 Flemish farmers, describing the use and location of their farmlands. The Flemish Government developed a virtual counter, allowing the farmers to save time and gain efficiency submitting their reports over the internet.

For drawing a qualitative spatial policy, in particular a municipal housing policy, it is important to have insight in the available space.
The register not-cultivated plots (ROP) is an important instrument, both at the level of the district, the provinces and municipalities. It maps the currently still available not- cultivated areas and gives insights into the total quantity not-cultivated plots.
Inland Waterways is using Geomajas, Waterborne transport
The solution is a proof of concept for building a FIS webportal (Fairway information Services) based on open-source components and open GIS formats together with RIS specific standards (NTS, AIS, risindex, S-57)
The application gives the different types of users read/partial read access to data, as well as the possibility to edit some specific data fields.

Each plot in Flanders has a specific destination. This can vary from nature, wood or agriculture to industry, construction, etc… Each plot also has a certain value depending on that destination.
However, over time the destination can be modified so that the value of the plot also change. If there is a decrease in value one speaks of a “plan damage”. On the other hand if the value increases a “plan profit” takes place In the latter case the owner of the plot will be charged for the capital gain due to the modification of the specific destination.
Soilmate, Real estate industry
This is a proof-of-concept app built with Geomajas. The idea came from an entrepreneur - active in the realestate industry. He checked with us if we could built his idea of bringing the players in the real-estate market in a kind of virtual marketplace where all transactions could be handled immediately and online. A proof-ofconcept was built using Geomajas in just 5 days. A good idea and a fast development can go hand-in-hand.
Transport of Students - Department of Education, Public sector
The project involved the automation of the right to individual and/or collective transport of students for the government, Department Education. The requests, protected by eID, are initiated by the school by means of a web application. Afterwards the requests are being treated automatically and on-the-fly thanks to a performing and precise routing (calculation of distance) between the place of residence of the student and the closest school qualifying for that specific student. The routing and calculation of distances are realized on the basis of the open source Geomajas framework.
Westtour, Tourism industry
For the management of all data with regard to the recreational routes and networks the company Westtoer has chosen for the geographical information system Geomajas.
The GIS framework allows also for adding infrastructure elements in an easy way. An extra plug-in has been made for adding new infrastructure elements (object + coordinate) by means of a PDA or an equivalent mobile apparatus on the basis of a Java script compatible browser.
